About Two Chairs Theatre Co.
We specialize in theatre & stuff

OUR STORY
In November 2022, Two Chairs Theatre Co. was founded by a group of fresh Chicago imports, with the dream of striking their new artistic identity. “We can do any show with just two chairs” – was the self-necessitated mantra born of humble resources, fueled by the ambition to create and foster the community of new and developing artists.
As numbers and engagement grew, Chicago’s award-winning home for original plays, musicals, sketch, improv, and all things “NEW” has continued to flourish. This scrappy band of playwrights, directors, actors, and artists would be voted “Best New Theatre Company” (Chicago Reader, 2023) after just their first season, and first runner-up their second. Quickly finding a dynamic, “all-hands-on-deck” rhythm and an inventive, darkly comedic tone to much of their work, Two Chairs Theatre Co. has quickly claimed local notoriety and amassed a following of Chicago-based theatre artists who believe in one of the League of Chicago Theatres’ youngest and most daring members.
And a few years later, we still firmly believe this is the best city in the world to do the kind of work we do. Six resident artists became twenty. One original production became sixteen. And when asked, “Why is it still two chairs?” we can only be really annoying and return the question, “Why do YOU think there’s only two chairs? …Seriously, though, do you have an idea? And could you put in an email?”
Our Mission
Composed of indie theatre artists, Two Chairs is storytelling-first, primarily focused on providing support to up-and-coming, underrepresented artists with their most bold and unabashed ideas. As an ensemble, we are intrigued by darkly comedic, risk-taking stories that twist the modern American mythos with sobering honesty and biting wit…
Works that are exciting, daring, odd, confusing, dark, disgusting, hilarious, improvised, devised, My Mom Hated This, thrilling, specific, emotional, lyrical, My Mom Loved This, one-act, two-act, three-act if it wins the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, questioning, yearning, unique, and unflinchingly beautiful.
This is Two Chairs. We joyfully accept your engagement as we dive into the new.
